MAY FOCUS: RETAIL
Let’s face it: The economy has taken a nose dive. And no industry sector is feeling the fall more than retail, which is usually the first to be effected by consumer belt tightening. More than ever, retailers need a low-cost, high-powered incentive that will drive foot traffic and motivate consumers to buy. And digital entertainment has proven to do the job.

Music download and cell phone entertainment cards make good marketing sense for several reasons:
  1. They carry mass appeal, which is critical to retailers interested reaching out to a broad consumer base

  2. Because they are redeemed online via a promo code and URL, recipients can be driven to the retailer’s Web site first, enabling retailers to reinforce their brand, cross-promote other products, and offer discount coupons to drive repeat sales

  3. They can be used to capture customer information or valuable market data through online surveys

  4. They can easily be customized with bonus instant win prizes such as iPods and cell phones that send consumer excitement skyrocketing – for little additional investment
Digital entertainment incentives offer retailers the multi-pronged marketing tool they need to get consumers to their store, drive sales and stay connected with new and existing customers long after the promotion ends. And from a budget perspective, digital entertainment cards are inexpensive to offer and require virtually no storage space – making them an ideal solution in today’s tough economic times.

LEVI'S, NAVY EXCHANGE DRIVE SALES WITH MUSIC DOWNLOAD/IPOD GIVEAWAY
Levi’s was looking for an attention-getting promotion that would boost sales of its Levi and Dockers brand pants at dozens of Navy Exchange locations throughout the country.

The solution? Music download cards good for three music downloads and the chance to instantly win an iPod Shuffle.

Working in conjunction with Levi’s distributor, CFS designed a music download card that included an additional scratch off area on the front. Hidden beneath the scratch off was a message notifying the cardholder if he or she was a winner.

“During the promotion, everyone who purchased two pair of Levi’s or Dockers pants received a music download card,” notes Stuart Johnson, president of CFS. “If the card featured an instant win iPod message, cardholders needed only to go to the customer service desk to obtain their iPod.

“What made this promotion so successful was that everyone received at least three music downloads – so everyone was a winner,” says Johnson. “And by adding some iPods into the mix and incorporating the instant-win component, we generated a lot of excitement. It’s a great way to elevate a promotion for a limited cost.”
