Because of the high concentration of Latino youth and their consumption of all things digital, online music serves as a powerful, cost-effective tool for businesses interested in connecting with this key consumer base. To address this need, CFS offers puretrackslatin.com, a Spanish/English music store tailored to the diverse U.S. Latino population. The site features more than 100,000 Latin tracks in genres ranging from Rock Latino to Cristiana, along with access to the entire Puretracks music catalog of more than 3 million tracks.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there are 45.5 million Hispanics living in the United States, and the population is growing quickly. From 2000-2006, Latinos accounted for more than half of the entire U.S. population growth. Latinos now represent 15% of the overall U.S. population, up from 12.6% in 2000.

The U.S. Census Bureau reports that over half of the U.S. Latino population is under the age of 27, and one-third are under the age of 18. This puts the median age of Latinos at 27, compared to 40 for Whites, 35 for Asians, and 31 for Blacks. The Latino youth factor is expected to play an even bigger role in the future. According to an article by Conor Dougther and Miriam Jordan of the Wall Street Journal, 62% of the U.S. Latino population growth between 2006 and 2007 resulted from births, not immigration – a trend that is expected to continue.

A March 19, 2009 report by Scarborough Research found that Hispanic Internet users ages 18 years and older are 21 percent more likely to download digital content than the adult population as a whole – with music downloads leading the pack. According to the report, titled “The Power of the Hispanic Consumer Online,” 42 percent of Hispanic Internet users have downloaded some form of digital content during the past 30 days, compared to 35% of the total Internet population. Music topped the download category for both Hispanics and the total Internet population, with 32 percent of Hispanic Internet users downloading music in the month prior to polling, compared to 24 percent of Internet users as a whole.

The spending power of the U.S. Latino market is expected to top more than $1.2 trillion in 2011, according to a July 2007 report by the Selig Center for Economic Growth at the University of Georgia. This, according to Investment News, accounts for nearly 10 percent of the total spending power in the United States.

While the Latino population in the United States has started moving into the Midwest, Mideast and other non-traditional areas, 2007 statistics from the Pew Hispanic Center show that the population base is still largely concentrated – with four states making up over 63 percent of the entire U.S. Latino population. These states are California (29 percent), Texas (18.9 percent), Florida (8.3 percent) and New York (6.9 percent).
